Finding ants is never a problem. Ants find us. In the spring and summer they seem to be everywhere. If you sit on a grassy area eating a strawberry jam sandwich, you will soon attract unwanted company. Foraging ants will scent the sticky crumbs, eat their fill, lay a trail for others to follow, and return to their home under a nearby rock. Soon hordes of hungry, eager and busy little black creatures swarm all over you, the sandwich, and anything else that is edible.
Ants are fascinating as well as irritating creatures. They are very complex small animals, living in highly organised societies, leading the most extraordinary lives. |
