First UK reprint, 1899 (same year as first edition) in excellent condition throughout. 272 pages plus ii publisher's adverts. Boards and spine are very clean - the cloth is still bright and has not darkened with age like most first editions of this title. The gilt stamped design to the front board of an elephant's head remains as bright as the day it was produced. Boards and spine excellent with square corners and no splitting of damage - just a couple of minor imprefections which if were not present could give the book a "Very Fine" grading.
Binding is tight and square with no loose or missing pages - light spotting to the front and rear endpapers - all other pages good throughout - two names written on the front endpaper. This is an excellent first edition in Fine condition.

| Based on Kipling's own adolescent experiences, Stalky & Co. is a cunning story of mischievous 19th century British schoolboys attempting scholastic mutiny. The faculty and headmaster of a boys private school repeatedly pursue a trio of poetic pranksters, "Stalky," "Beetle" and "Turkey," as they wage war on fellow students and the "establishment" with unwavering energy and creativity. |
