First Edition / Second State, 1964 - an affordable option for the collector who can't afford to pay £1,500 - £2,200 for the true first printing.
Written by Roald Dahl - Published by Alfred A knopf, 1964. This is the first american edition / second state with red boards, five line colophon at the rear, with the chocolate-colour stain to top page edges.
There were 10.000 copies of the first Knopf edition printed for sale but only 800 of these are considered to be the true first editions with the 5th line of the colophon stating "Paper manufactured by S.D. Warren Co" (this statement is left out on all subsequent printings). The remainder copies are commonly referred to as the 'second state' and 'third state' of the first edition.
BOOK CONDITION: The dust-jacket is good with some light creasing to the edges and few small closed tears to the top edge of the rear panel - the jacket is also price-clipped and another small piece is cut off the top of the inside front flap - the boards and spine are in good condition - the mustard-coloured endpapers are good but the front one does have a previous owner's libris slip pasted on - the pages are in very good condition throughout with no writing or scribbles. A good 'second state' of this collectable Roald Dahl title.

For the first time in a decade, Willy Wonka, the reclusive and eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to the public ? well, five members of the public to be exact.
The lucky five who find a Golden Ticket in their Wonka chocolate bars will receive a private tour of the factory, given by Mr. Wonka himself.
For young Charlie Bucket, this a dream come true. And, when he finds a dollar bill in the street, he can't help but buy two Wonka's Whipple?Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights ? even though his impoverished family could certainly use the extra dollar for food. But as Charlie unwraps the second chocolate bar, he sees the glimmer of gold just under the wrapper! The very next day, Charlie, along with his unworthy fellow winners Mike Teavee, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Augustus Gloop, steps through the factory gates to discover whether or not the rumors surrounding the Chocolate Factory and its mysterious owner are true.
What they find is that the gossip can't compare to the extraordinary truth, and for Charlie, life will never be the same again. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, another unforgettable masterpiece from the legendary Roald Dahl, never fails to delight, thrill, and utterly captivate.
