Janet Lunn was born in Dallas, Texas, US on December 28, 1928 but moved to Vermont when she was still an infant and lived there until she was ten.
In 1946 Janet moved to Canada to attend Queen?s University in Kingston, Ontario, and it was there that she met and married Richard Lunn, a fellow student. Janet became a Canadian citizen in 1963.
Her first book, 'Double Spell', was published in l968. Since then Janet has written eighteen books among which are picture books, novels and a history of Canada, 'The Story of Canada' (co-authored with Christopher Moore).
She has worked as children's editor for a Toronto publisher, lectured widely on the subject of children's literature, conducted writing workshops, and has been active on the boards of The Canadian Children's Book Centre and The Writers' Union of Canada which she chaired in l984-5.
