Caroline Pitcher was born and spent her childhood in East Yorkshire.
After studying English and European Literature at university, Caroline worked in a number of jobs, including work in a fish factory and an art gallery, before becoming a primary school teacher in East London.
In 1987 Caroline won the Kathleen Fidler Award for Diamond. The Snow Whale was shortlisted for the Children?s Book Award in 1997.
Caroline has also been awarded the Arts Council of England Writer?s Award for work in progress for Silkscreen, which was first published in July 2000.
