Johanna Spyri
1879-1884 ws Johanna's period of greatest creativity, with a total of 20 stories written, some for children and others for young girls or adults.

A vacation stay at the "Salis-Haus", the home of her former school mate Anna Elisa von Salis-H?ssli, in Jenins gave Spyri the inspiration and background for the story of "Heidi".

In 1880 Heidi's Lehr- und Wanderjahre (Heidi's Years of Apprenticeship and Travel) appeared just as all other previous works have, with the cryptic reference of authorship "Von der Verfasserin von Ein Blatt auf Vrony's Grab" (by the Author of a Leaf on Vrony's Grave), and it immediately became a huge success.

In 1881 the story of Heidi continued with Heidi kann brauchen, was es gelernt hat (Heidi Applies What She Has Learned), but this time the authorship is no longer concealed.

1884 saw the death of her long-ailing son and her husband.

Johanna Spyri died on 7 July, 1901. She was buried in the family grave site at the Sihlfeld-A Cemetery in Z?rich.
