Arthur Groom grew up on a cattle station in Queensland and worked as a jackeroo and journalist. A passionate environmentalist, he became the first honorary secretary of the National Parks Association of Queensland in 1930, and in 1933 helped to establish Binna Burra Lodge, on the edge of Queensland's Lamington National Park. In addition to writing social commentary and fiction, Arthur Groom also wrote books about travelling in Australia:
