Michelle Paver was born in central Africa but spent her childhood in Wimbledon, south-west London. As a young girl Michelle was always interested in myths and stories from the distant past.

The first story Michelle wrote was when she was just five: an adventure about an escaped Tyrannosaurus and a rabbit called Hamish.

August 2004 saw Paver's first children's book, Wolf Brother, a 215-page adventure set 6,000 years ago, published to a maelstrom of publicity surrounding her ?2.8 million advance on a six-book deal.

Whilst doing research for Wolf Brother Michelle spent some time in Greeland sleeping on animal skins and eating reindeer heart and seals livers.
