Anna Dale was born in Suffolk, Hampshire, England in 1971.
When she was seven she moved Essex with her family. Anna spent most of her childhood in a village called Writtle, and attended the local grammar school.
As a child Anna was fascinated with magic and she enjoyed reading any books that had a witch somewhere within the plot.
Her two favourite childhood books were 'The Little Broomstick' by Mary Stewart and 'The Stream That Stood Still' by Beverley Nichols.
Anna went on to study History at Kent University, and she lived in Canterbury for three years. Later, when she came to write her first book 'Whispering to Witches', Anna drew on her memories of those student days in the old town of Canterbury.

|
| 'Whispering to Witches', which took two months to write, was written by Anna to complete a Master of Arts in creative writing. She chose to write about witchcraft because the subject had always fascinated her. |
