George Finkel was born in South Shields at the mouth of the River Tyne on May 13, 1909.
After leaving school George became a cadet chemical engineer and joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
In 1934, he began flying with the Imperial Airways Company on routes through Europe and Africa.
In World War II Finkel served in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and, after his migration to Australia, served in the Australian Fleet Air Arm during the Korean War. He also worked at the Nowra Naval Air Base.

George began his literary career by writing a few well-structured adventure stories for boys. He then became absorbed in a much deeper vein of creative fiction, and produced a number of originally researched historical novels, as well as fictional biographies.
George Finkel died in March 1975. |
