Panama Oxridge is something of an enigma. Although born in 1960, if you go by birthdays Panama has scarcely turned eleven and a half, (which, if you think about it carefully, makes it possible to calculate his or her exact date of birth!)
Unusually, this paradoxical author?s gender is shrouded in mystery. Literary critics suggest the name is intentionally confusing ? some say it has masculine connotations, conjuring images of a scholarly Oxbridge professor wearing a battered panama hat, while others claim Panama is a female author deliberately disguising her femininity to avoid alienating young male readers.

All that can be stated with any certainty is that Panama Oxridge is either one or the other ? the odds being roughly fifty-fifty.
During research for his or her latest book ?Justin Thyme?, the author accidentally stumbled across the secret of time travel, and, ever since, has been forced to adopt a pseudonym and wear a series of cunning disguises. Some speculate that Panama Oxridge is an anagram of the author?s real name. However, others feel this is far too obvious ? and that someone determined to remain completely incognito would need to conceal their identity a little more thoroughly.
Examining the "Tartan of Thyme" series closely, many have logically deduced that Panama Oxridge has had a scientific education, lives in Scotland, likes listening to Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, reading Shakespeare, and believes in the Loch Ness Monster. Alternatively, these may be sly red herrings specifically designed to mislead or bamboozle!
Detectives worldwide are combing the pages of ?Justin Thyme? for hidden cryptic evidence ... although rumour has it that the truth can be uncovered by following a trail of clues at the official Justin Thyme website.

PRESS RELEASE
JUSTIN THYME is one in a googolplex! After all, how many books proclaim that their author is yet to be born ... or have a title that reads exactly the same when it?s turned upside-down?
Even the title character is a world away from the clich?d under-dog orphan of standard kid lit; Justin is a self-made billionaire living in a castle overlooking Loch Ness. The day he turns thirteen he sets about converting his vintage motorbike into a time machine, little realising the strange sequence of events this will trigger. (Think ?Monarch of the Glen? meets ?Back to the Future?).
Using a lifetime?s experience devising complex picture-puzzle books, author Panama Oxridge has created a baffling whodunit with a cast of quirky suspects, including: a gender-ambiguous cook, a mercurial Scottish laird, an ex-royal butler and a computer-literate gorilla. Cunning clues are concealed amongst shoals of red herrings ? and all the evidence is illustrated, allowing the reader to examine it for themselves. It?s a novel wrapped in an enigma and disguised as a mystery. Can you solve it ... just in time?

Panama Oxridge is something of a paradox, (even to his or her immediate family who know the author by another name entirely). Under this name he, or she, has written and illustrated several books, (the most well-known selling over a million copies worldwide). When not using a pseudonym, this enigmatic author has previously been nominated for
the Kate Greenaway Medal and short-listed for the Red House Children?s Book Award.
