Ladybird series 701
History of the Arts
3 titles published between 1940 - 1980

A small series examining some of the world’s greatest artists – again, these books were popular with schools but not with the general home reader.

There was only so far this small series could go – it would have possibly been more productive to have given each artist their own book – this would have expanded the series and at the same time would have allowed more attention to be given to each.

Random fact

Beatrix Potter once employed illustrator Ernest Aris (series 474) but later fell out with him when he named one of his rabbit characters 'Peter' - she accused him of plagiarism.
