Junior Science 4 titles published
between 1940 and 1980
This four-title popular series,
written by F.E.Newing .& R. Bowood and illustrated
by Harry Wingfield, introduced simple scientific experiments
to young children. Step by step the young reader learns
the fundamental principles in a most enjoyable and practical
manner – these four books were a perfect introduction
to science, and to the scientific way of thinking.
All four titles in this series were originally published
in dust-wrappers – because of their popularity there
were numerous reprints of all four titles, which remained
popular throughout the 1970s.
Harry Wingfield, a freind of Editorial Director Douglas
Keen from pre-Ladybird days, took photgraphs of Keen's
children and used them as the basis for his paintings
for the Junior Science series 621.
