Ladybird series 618
Capital Cities of the World
2 titles published between 1940 and 1980
Another two-book series which was intentionally produced to carry a number of books examining the capital cities of the world, but this was almost immediately abandoned for some time after publishing it’s first title.

In 1971 Wills & Hepworth published Jen Londono (London) in the European language Esperanto - this edition was issued in pictorial matt boards and had the identical illustrations to that of the original English edition - the original English text was directly translated into Esperanto..

Strangely enough Ladybird decided to add another title to this series some 19 years later - again called London and published in 1980, this title was not a revision of the first book but is different in every way - the text is completely different and the book uses photographs by the author / photographer, John Moyes.

Random fact

Pre-1940 Wills & Hepworth books were large and thick, on puffed-up, cheap paper, mainly printed in 2 colours & line - these were originally sold to market hucksters by Mr Hepworth, the original founder of W&H.
