Ladybird series 606c
Sport
2 titles published between 1940 - 1980

This was Ladybird's first series to take a look at the sporting world. It was a short-lived series with only 2 titles being published, Cricket and Football, the two great British sports. Both books were written by Vera Southgate and illustrated by Jack Matthew. Vera Southgate is well-known for her retelling of popular fairy tales for Ladybird series 606d, otherwise known as the Well Loved Tales.

Why Ladybird discontinued this series is down to poor sales - this would have to do with the age group the books were targeted at - up until this series Ladybird had aimed at trhe younger reader and therefore hadn't marketed this series to interest an older audience.- these books were simply not as popular as previous series - The series that followed, Well Loved Tales (606d), saw Ladybird doing what they did best, telling stories to children - 606d was a one of Ladybird's success stories.

Books in series 606c - There were only 2 titles published in this series. Both entries below describe the first edition of each title.

The Story of Cricket - Vera Southgate - 1964
The Story of Football - Vera Southgate - 1964
