Ladybird series 549
Robin Hood
2 titles published between 1940 - 1980

There were just 2 titles published in Ladybird series 549 both of which were Robin Hood stories written by Max Kester and illustrated by John Kenney, the artist for many Ladybird books.

Although this series was small the books were very popular - this was not just because they were about the outlaw Robin Hood, but also because they were wonderfully told and illustrated.

Books in series 549 - Only 2 titles published in this series between 1940 and 1980 inclusive. Click on either title to see the first edition, synopsis and other information.

The Silver Arrow - Max Kester - 1954
The Ambush - Max Kester - 1955

Random fact

Pre-1940 Wills & Hepworth books were large and thick, on puffed-up, cheap paper, mainly printed in 2 colours & line - these were originally sold to market hucksters by Mr Hepworth, the original founder of W&H.
