Ladybird series 478
The Tinker's Wig
1 titles- published between 1940 and 1980

The Tinker's Wig is the 'one-and-only' title belonging to Ladybird series 478.

Written by J Saunders and illustrated by F Matania, this book was somewhat of an oddity - not only was it twice the size of a standard Ladybird book but it also broke Ladybird's printing style by printing text on both sides of the pages and the use of less pictures. It also had 93 pages rather than the usual 52 pages.

The artwork in the book lends itself more to the 1920s than to the late 1940s. It is possible that this book was commissioned by Wills & Hepworth much earlier (1920s) and laid aside only to be printed as a new Ladybird series.
