This is a delightful story about Ned, a little grey donkey who, though very lonely, tries his best to overcome his loneliness.
Many of his farmyard friends are far too busy to help him, but eventually he finds companionship and happiness with Timothy, a lonely little boy, Through the advice and help of a wise old owl and a magpie.

Ned, the little grey donkey, had lived all alone on his hill for as long as he could remember. He had lived there, among the furze bushes and near the little hurrying stream in summer and winter, in sunshine and in rain.
