American reprints of Ladybird books
Although Ladybird books have been published in many languages and exported to many countries including, Sweden, France, Spain and Italy, they never quite made it to America in their original format.

But a small publishing company from New York in the United States apporached Ladybird in the 1970s to ask for special licence to produce 'new' editions of some of the more popular titles.

This page looks at some of the American editions. You can click on any of the books for more information.
American reprint of Tootles the Taxi
The American reprint of Ladybird's Puss in Boots These US editions were all produced as paperbacks and are a little larger in size than their UK counterparts, measuring in at 9.25 by 7 inches (the standard UK Ladybird books measure 7 by 4.75 inches).

The printing quality is a little poorer than the UK editions and many of the images have been cropped a little.

Some of the text has been either edited, or changed altogether and on one or two of the books credit has not been given to the correct illustrator.
It has to be said that the American editions are not nearly as well-presented as the original little UK hardbacks.
